Autumn in the archipelago

In my personal opinion autumn is the best fishing season in the archipelago. Water temperatures are dropping, fish gathers into flocks and eats a lot when preparing for the winter.

For my part, the most common target fish at the beginning of autumn is perch. After all, it's nice to fish for perch even in the summer, but in the fall the perches start to swarm and the catch numbers increase. The wobbles, blades and small Spinners that are used somewhat in the summer are mostly left in the boxes in the autumn and the fishing is mainly jigging. When fishing for perch, it is at least impossible to give good general tips about jigs, for example. Sometimes you catch a perch anywhere, and sometimes you have to search for the right color and model a little longer. However, it always depends on the day, time of day, weather, etc. If you are not familiar with jigging, book yourself a fishing guide and get to know the secrets of the sport

I don't very actively fish for zander until a little later in the fall. The reason is probably the laziness to go looking for zander in a larger area and instead I wait for the zander to appear in familiar places and depths. I only fish for zander by jigging. Jigs are naturally a notch bigger compared to perch fishing. In recent years, it has been a pleasure to notice that the average size has increased slightly in Turku archipelago. After all, there are big zanders in the sea, but I don't particularly fish after big fish. I prefer to leave those tasks to the eager fishermen with a live sonars .

As autumn progresses, larger pike head to shallower areas and the edges of reed beds. When it comes to pike, fishing is more about finding the big one as the season progresses. If you have that big pike in mind, book a fishing guide. This way you get good gear to use and you don't waste your time in perhaps not the best places.

Then we have the unicorn in the archipelago - trout. I leave this to another story later on....
