Fishing is a constant learning process. A fishing guide always learns when he fishes, whether he is fishing alone, with clients or friends. The combination of conditions and fish behavior alone is an eternal mystery. Often when you think you know something, it will be proven wrong. In addition, the tools develop all the time. New lures and sometimes even types of lures come to the market. In addition, the development of technology is also strongly reflected in fishing.
I 'm very much a traditional fisherman and also a fishing guide. Of course, I have had sonars and plotters for a long time and of course they will be used a lot as basic everyday tools. When 2D echoes came on the market, people stared at the screen and vertically jigged fish with great enthusiasm. With the sideview sonar, the enthusiasm was strong at first, also in pike fishing, to map beaches and look for fish. Nowadays, however, they play a secondary role and fish are primarily searched for based on one's own experience and knowledge. Echo sounders mostly only confirm or refute assumptions - whether we are in the right place and depth, whether there are fish in the area and at the target.
However, in my opinion, a fishing trip and experience changes a lot in its nature if you fish "technology ahead". So I personally consider the experience of fishing at sea, nature and the environment to be more important than, for example, catching the biggest fish. This is also where the finesse of fishing comes in - it offers very different experiences and experiences depending on what you want.
But then to the point itself, i.e. live sounders and live fishing. I actually really got to the topic only in the past fishing season. I set off with an open mind to get to know the sport with a young, enthusiastic and really skilled fisherman and a fishing guide. And yes, I got so excited that I had to go a second time and start thinking about purchasing tools myself. I don't really see myself as a live fisherman in the future either, but it is both a great experience and also very educational.
The biggest learning for me was seeing the position and reactions of the fish in real time. The first lesson was really where exactly the target fish is and how it behaves. When the fish is in the intermediate water, it is of course always more difficult to fish it with traditional methods. Also, when the fish is active and moving, it becomes even harder and starts to be more of a lottery than fishing.
My view of how this new technology can be used to support more traditional fishing and the work of a fishing guide was also strengthened for me. Although it is not used for actual target fishing, it is really able to define more precise areas and depths for fishing. In addition, it allows you to observe the fish's behavior and reaction to, for example, different lures.
However, live fishing is not a shortcut to luck, a bigger catch or that record fish. Learning this technology requires time before it starts producing results. First, you have to learn to interpret and read the screen correctly. Then it has to be combined with everything else to do, i.e. steering the boat and sensor so that you get to a good fishing sector in relation to the target fish. When all this starts to flow, you still need to know how to cast accurately, sink to the right depth, adjust the movements of the lure with millimeter precision. And actually, above all else, you have to have a good idea of where the fish could be. You can certainly drive day after day in the Archipelago Sea, if you are already in the wrong area.
My strong recommendation is to learn with the help of a fishing guide. If you are a beginner, the best option is to first book a fishing trip and a fishing guide who will introduce you to the basics of gear and fish behavior. This way you can choose better equipment for yourself and plan a fishing trip to the right area and at the right time.
Then, when you are about to get a live sonar, you should also start it with proper guidance and, in addition, plan time to learn it yourself. So I can't recommend myself for this, because I'm a complete beginner.
