Luckily there is a fishing guide! A fishing guide can certainly help you avoid many pitfalls when starting fishing. When you get catches and positive experiences as early and as often as possible, they just feed themselves. A successful fishing trip with a professional guide brings positive experiences and the fishing guide is always ready to share experiences and views on fishing with you.
Of course, there is also a lot of information available in various media today. Time is gold, and so is the Abu 'Nyt Nappaa' publication, which was the young fisherman's holy book back in the 980s. Back then, good fishing spots and techniques had to be largely tested and learned through trial and error.
Last year, the season started exceptionally early in the archipelago. The fishing guide's boat hit the water already in March, and the first fishing trips with customers were made at the beginning of April. Although the season started early, the waters warmed up very slowly, and this partly created situations that had not been encountered before – the calendar, water temperature, and other factors were in a somewhat strange alignment.
Similarly, the season continued late in the autumn, but the actual autumn fishing also started quite late. Also in the autumn, there were situations where even a more experienced fisherman and fishing guide had to think twice about where the fish were now and how they were behaving. The waters were exceptionally warm for a long time, even though the days shortened at a normal pace, of course.
Perch were plentiful and available well into the autumn. For pike-perch (zander), the season started quite late, and a "pike-perch rush" similar to the previous year was not experienced, at least in these local waters. I myself only got to start sea trout fishing quite late, and I was reading the otherwise positive "catch reports" with some worry, fearing that the best season was over before I even got to start. However, the season continued long, and Ahti (Finnish god of waters and fishing) was also in a generous mood.
It remains to be seen what kind of spring is coming for us. Jump on a fishing trip with a fishing guide to find out!
